Odds and Ends

Different kinds of trail markers.

In the part of Norway we are hiking, there are two main trails, the "pilgrims way" (the one we're on), and the "kings way". In many places they are coincident. The markers are often in scenic locations.

It gets so cold in the winter around here, even the stone markers need long underwear.

This is one of the more interesting showers we've seen so far

The sign said "compact" parking.  Looks like a compact tractor to me.

Finally, a technology Mary is OK with.

Trail markers don't last forever. Here are three generations of trail markers in one place.

Most of the places we've stayed for the night are working farms.  Typically, the sleeping quarters are upstairs, which are usually quite steep, especially when carrying a backpack after a long day of hiking.

This image reminds me of one of our favorite kids books: Imogen's Antlers
