Back home, our mattresses are not soft. They come firm, extra firm, or ultra firm. Even the country's largest mattress retailer has "firm" as part of its name.
By contrast, every bed we've slept in on our walk so far has been soft and squishy.
While walking down a steep narrow path strewn with slippery moss-covered roots and sharp jagged rocks
I was pondering this cultural difference when, suddenly, we dropped out of the forest and into a large expanse of peat bog.
Our feet immediately felt heavenly, walking in the soft, squishy peat. Hmm?
