After keeping our ponchos at the ready for the last four days, today we started out in our rain jackets - it was far too windy for ponchos as the weather varied between a light mist and a driving rain throughout the morning.
As we walked farther from the coast, the weather eased, but the incline didn't
as we left the coast-side village behind us.
As we past the swamp troll, the ground softened.
Fortunately, the boards sunk into the muddy bog so we didn't have to.
For the first time since we started walking, almost 150 miles ago, we met up with other pilgrims (that is what one is called on the trail).
The first glimpse of our goal, it's green spire in the distance, failed to encourage our feet to pick up the pace, knowing they still had 5 miles to go.
We trondled on, and finally...
reached the cathedral, which is pretty darn impressive, especially when compared to some of the other buildings we've past in the last couple of weeks.
Our walk almost done, we need to make it official, so we're off to the Pilgrim office
(yes that was the wrong door) to get our certificates of completion, although it's the stamps we collect along the way that are the real prize, as they remind us of all the wonderful places we've been.
At 16.4 miles, it was a long but satisfying day's walk.
